Most students in Saigon take extra language classes

The whole city has about 700 language centers. Most students in Ho Chi Minh City learn more foreign languages outside of school. Only a few students in urban areas, with difficult economic conditions, do not participate in extra language courses.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, many foreign language centers have come to teach schools. The demand for native teachers of the city is currently very large. Department of Education and Training is willing to support, to have a policy of bringing native teachers to teach in high schools.
In order to improve the quality of foreign language training in high schools, Ho Chi Minh City implements its own policy of training teachers.
Survey of teacher quality according to the city's international standards in 2012 showed that only about 5% of teachers met the requirements. The city has used the state budget to foster and improve the quality of teachers according to international standards.
To date, 70% of the city's teachers have met international standards.

The English test results this year have had positive changes

Every year, the Ministry analyzes the results of national high school exams, including English subjects, to assess the quality of education, make appropriate adjustments in teaching and retraining teachers.
In the past 3 years, analyzing English scores in high school exams, the average score of students nationwide was below 5.0, at most, only 3.0 or 3.4. .
This exam result is differentiated by region. The localities with difficult economy in the Northern Mountains, Mekong River Delta ... for many years in a row at the bottom of the table, localities in big cities ranked first.
The average score of Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau ... is always from 5 to 6, higher than the national average. The ratio of points below average, scores of 8 and above also have a localization.
The results of the 2019 national high school exam in English also had positive changes, but mostly in large cities and provinces, and difficult localities were almost unchanged.
Mr. Sai Cong Hong said that the English test results will continue to be analyzed further, since then, the National Foreign Language Project Committee built a teacher training strategy, improving the quality of this subject.
